Photography

I started out mostly taking pictures of architecture and nature, but eventually got into fashion photography - that is, showing off a person, their style and their outfit in an intersting location, in a way that is "fashionable" and captures a mood.

Most of my photography features my friends, whose privacy I respect, so unfortunately I do not have a lot of pictures I can share here at the moment. Eventually I'd like to have an online portfolio.

My camera of choice is a Nikon D40^↗. It is a pretty old entry level DSLR and I suspect some photographers might scoff at it, but I enjoy it a lot. I like the colours its CCD sensor captures a lot. I like that it uses F-mount so that I can use vintage lenses, which are usually cheap and more interesting than modern ones (auto-focus is overrated anyway). It is also light, so taking it anywhere is rarely a hassle. The resolution is somewhat low by modern standards, but usually that is not a problem for me. It also means storage is not an issue: Just install a 32GB memory card and you will likely never run out of space, even when shooting raw images.

I have a few lenses - an ever expanding collection - but my favourite is a vintage Vivitar 133mm 1:2.8 portrait lense. Usually I only ever bring a single lense to a shoot and that's the one. For a portrait lense its angle of view is a bit narrow, but it is quite versatile regardless. With its maximum aperture, it gets enough light that you can use it with such a low exposure time that you don't even have to worry about holding the camera stable - just the focus gets a bit fussy.
